Exit the highway in the direction of Stob and soon you will see the orange-pink mountains on your left in the distance.
Even now the Pyramids are a tiny spot but don’t worry,  that is just an illusion.
Navigate through the somewhat deserted village of Stob and arrive at the bottom of the foothills of the Rila Mountains. Walk for 35 minutes on the winding path, which will lead you, the higher you get, to a breathtaking panoramic view.
Perhaps smaller than the more famous Göreme in Turkye or Bryce Canyon in the USA, but at least as impressive and historic; here you will feel like you are at arm's length and can almost touch the formations up close.
Wind, rain and sun have created this fairy tale. Made of clay and river sand, the rivers and glaciers are long gone but have left this erasing spectacle behind.
The Pyramids have different shapes and heights, sometimes conical, others like mushrooms and can be up to 40 meters high. Especially in the moonlight the remarkable shapes and pastel shades take on an almost extraterrestrial character.
This wonder of nature also brings with it many legends.
A story of a man and woman who wanted to get married, but with the party in full swing, when the father of the groom spontaneously fell in love with his new daughter-in-law, an earthquake turned everyone into rocks.
Obviously, mothers-in-law are also not spared, so another legend tells that the mother of the groom disapproved of the upcoming marriage and enchanted both lovers in rocks.
If you have a taste for this wonder of nature, there is another group of so-called natural Pyramids in the south of Bulgaria, near the city of Melnik.
