Description

In almost every major city in Bulgaria, an old historical part has been preserved. A special place that has retained its authenticity and unique appearance, known as "Varosha”.
The architectural complex Varosha, the oldest district of the city of Blagoevgrad, has even been included in the list of the top 100 National Bulgarian Tourist Places.
In this former Hellenistic settlement, you can still find the original cobbled streets and white stone houses from the period of the National Revival and stroll in what looks like the backdrop of a historic movie and let you sink back in time.
Initially, there were mainly one-story buildings, later, in the middle of the 19th century, the construction of the current houses along the main street began. The murals were made by icon painters of the Bansko School of Art and the Masters of the Samokov Academy of Art.
Today the only house in this district with such paintings is the Moshtanska House built in 1888.
Blagoevgrad on the route to the Bulgarian-Greek border has long since become popular as one of the major university cities in Bulgaria, with students from all parts of Bulgaria.
We would like to invite you to visit the central part of the city with its contemporary look on the other side of the river, a short distance away.
Travel in June, check the agenda and combine it with a visit to the legendary festival Francofolies Blagoevgrad.
If you are interested, at the end of your journey, visit the Holy Cross that rises high and majestic above the city.
